About Bijou

BIJOU is a 7 year old, 18.2 pound Maltese who was adopted from us but recently surrendered back to rescue due to the unexpected passing of her owner. She was doing so well with her adoptive mom and she's a bit sad and confused right now, but still very sweet. BIJOU is a perfectly perfect bow legged Maltese girl who is sweet and slightly shy. She had not been treated as a pet prior to coming to us, but did very well in her foster home and continued to do well with her adoptive family. There are still things that she needs some work on, namely potty training, but she is a sweet girl who has come so far! Even though she can initially be timid, she is friendly and enjoys attention. She will not do well in a home where she spends a lot of time away from her person. Bijou gets along well with most other dogs and plays with some of her foster siblings. She should go to a home where she has another dog for company as she follows their lead and feels confident when they are near. A dog about her size with a calm personality is her best match. She loves to be outside as long as someone or another pup is with her. Lying on the patio soaking up the sun is a favorite activity! Bijou is leash trained and enjoys walks. She needs a home with a fenced yard to help her continue with the potty training and to give her a safe space to explore and sunbathe. At night this sweet girl sleeps in the bed with her foster family and sometimes in her huge dog bed on the floor! Occasionally, you can find her under the bed too. Bijou has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, spayed, has had a recent dental, is heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. MORE about BIJOU: She needs a special person who will give her a lot of gentle encouragement and love. She is not kid or cat tested. She will need regular trips to the groomer, so please figure that in to your budget!
