Meet Tubby (Tubbs) Tubby, or Tubbs, is an AKC Registered Australian Shepherd, who's experienced a lot of upheaval and instability in his life. This wonderful boy needs a stable home, preferably one that understands the beautiful Aussie breed. Tubbs is a gorgeous Aussie. He's eight years old. Sadly, Tubbs has been neglected and is now a bit overweight. We have him on a diet and are slowly bringing back his svelteness and vitality. It breaks our hearts that dogs don't get a say in their lives, and throughout his, Tubbs found himself being shuttled around and ultimately landing at kill shelters'|twice! Both times he made it out alive, only to find himself in homes that didn't really want him. His good looks and happy and friendly demeanor bring people in, until they realize that adopting an Aussie requires an active lifestyle and the wherewithal to help them run off their energy, engage their minds and keep them active. It's not hard to welcome an Aussie into your life, but being that they were bred to herd cattle, they are energetic and smart. Being eight years old now, Tubbs is slowing down, but he still loves running, going for hikes, and being engaged. Maybe more than that, Tubbs wants to feel like he belongs, and our best guess is that he's never felt like anyone loved him or cared about him. We'll be careful in choosing his next home to make sure that they love Tubbs and understand the gem they are adopting. Tubbs is surprisingly well-adjusted given his history. He seems happy to be at our shelter. He is very sweet, easy to walk on a leash, and enjoys 1/1 attention. He's been in homes with other dogs, but after introducing him and observing him with some of our dogs, Tubbs does not like alpha dogs, big or small, that want to get in his face or challenge him. Tubbs prefers easy-going dogs or independent dogs that like to co-exist or dogs that can read body language and know when to engage in play. Tubbs did very well with our Gus, a border collie mix, also waiting to be adopted. Tubbs would be happy enough as an only dog, where he can get all the attention and love that has previously escaped him. Tubbs is house-trained, crate-trained and travels well in a car. He will make for a wonderful companion. If interested in Tubbs, please submit an application online at: www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org. Please email our shelter ([email protected]) or call our shelter at 706-865-4135 and leave a message to make sure we received your application. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out-of-state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship, nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals.
