About Morti Maltese

Morti is a three-year, male, white Maltese who weighs 8lbs. He was adopted through our rescue in April 2023 and has been returned. Morti originally came into our rescue from an owner surrender who could not properly care for the dogs. She was allowing several dogs to continue breeding in her home and it got out of control. We took four dogs and of the four, Morti was the most traumatized. The family had several young children and we suspect Morti was treated roughly as a puppy. Upon arrival, he was extremely fearful and could not even be touched. Morti was adopted by a single woman who lived in a condo. For 1.5 years, she tried working with Morti on his fear issues. One-on-one, Morti is incredible, but it takes a while for him to trust. The main issue for his return is that Morti was living in a condo and had to be walked on a leash. He walks well on a leash, but constantly barks and lunges at strangers. Morti has bitten several people. He should not have been allowed to get close enough for this to happen. After trying to make this work for 1.5 years, his owner decided to return Morti to the rescue. Since his return, Morti has again bonded with his foster mom. He gets along well with other dogs, ignores cats and really wants to be close to his human. He constantly sits on his foster mom's lap, sleeps glued to her side and wants to be with her every second. Morti is insecure and needs to feel loved and protected. We are looking for an extraordinary, local, single female, who has a secure fenced yard or walking area where there is low dog walking traffic. Morti did not do well in a busy condo environment with lots of people and other walking dogs. He is incredible with his foster mom. This dog has an abundance of love and devotion, and is seriously glued to his human. His foster mom is a 'foster mom' and wants Morti to find his own human that will spoil him. Again, single female, no kids. Morti was just shaved down on 12/13. We suspect Morti is not going to love a groomer. We had him shaved at our vet office. Adoption fee $400
