He was raised in a rural southern shelter until he was about 6 months old. He did not have his mother or brothers and sisters, so he missed the socialization with dogs and humans most dogs have. When Koda arrived at the rescue he had never been asked to trust or be friends with humans or other dogs. He has been with the rescue for about 5 months and has proven himself to be a smart, funny dog who wants to learn to be the best dog ever . Koda is shy with strangers but if given time and space and a role model dog, he will pretty quickly figure out how to say hello. Koda was fearful of thin teenagers and reacted with fear-based aggression. He nipped but not broken skin that we are aware of. We have worked on this fear in the house, and he is much more relaxed with young adults. In public areas Koda doesn't know he is much less confident and has relapses of fear. This is where the right owner and a well socialized partner dog would really help Koda. Koda is not mean. He just was never taught how to cope in crowds or shown new spaces. He is great with dogs his size or larger. He plays rough at times, but he takes corrections and cues from other dogs . Koda is a good, smart and sweet dog. Once you have earned his trust, he will give you his all and then some. In less than 6 months he has gone from a fearful, potentially aggressive dog to a loving, goofy dog with his foster. Koda would do best in a physically active home with another super socialized and friendly dog to mimic and whose lead he can follow. He definitely needs a fenced yard. If given a chance Koda will be a great dog. Koda is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm negative. He is being fostered in Conshohocken, PA and is available for an adoption fee of $300.00.
