Delta is currently a sheep guardian dog. We have always had trouble with her going down to the road and people picking her up, which just encourages her to do it more because she loves people. We need to rehome her for this reason only. She needs either another sheep guardian job with great fence and/or people living on farm (we live off farm and can't monitor her), or just a nice family with the ability to give her plenty of exercise. She is a mature dog and not hyper, but being a working breed and always living outside she'd need either consistent walks and/ or access to a yard. She is very friendly with people and enjoys visits from our house dog. She has been around our small children and watches over them and guards them too. She is large, so know she can knock small children or elderly people over by accident. We tie her up when the elderly visit the farm to be safe. She has never been house trained, but has never peep or pooped in houses when she has been in them and doesn't in the garage she often stays in either, so I do not think it would be a big challenge to acclimate her to being in a house, although that is only a guess. She is a guard dog, and will chase and kill small and large animals if she catches them. This includes cats! She has done well with some dogs and not well with others, but as far as we know has never injured another dog. Proceed with caution when introducing though to be safe. She is very good (too good in our case) about getting in and out of vehicles. She knows some of the basics like sit and down. She is exceptionally good on a leash, better than our house dog. I often take her for walks with the kids and a stroller for protection and even the children can walk her. She is submissive with people, and dominant with dogs. She will protect her food from other animals (which is necessary on the farm). If they try to take it, she will growl and snap. She does this with our house dog but has never actually bit him. She has however bit the sheep a few times when they relentlessly tried to take her dog food. We trained her from a puppy to let people take it, and so a human can safely take food or other things out of her mouth and we often do. But it's something to be aware of. In terms of being a guard dog, she is fantastic and we have never lost a lamb or sheep to predators as long as we have had her. The neighbors report that the coyotes haven't come around since either. She will chase off vultures, eagles, deer, bear, and pretty much anything else that could be a threat to the sheep or chickens. She is great with the sheep and especially cares for new lambs and their mothers. She will keep the cows back, clean up afterbirth, keep vultures away, and keep close to them until the lambs and mother are good to go. She's honestly a great guard dog which is why we have put up with her roaming for so long, but our farm is so small and boarders a main road so a better home for her would be good for us and her.
