Courtesy Posting: LOS ANGELES, CA- EMERGENCY NEW HOME NEEDED FOR YOUNG, DOG FRIENDLY SIMBA WHO IS SPECIAL NEEDS W DISCOID LUPUS (causes ulcerations on his mouth and hose) WHICH CAN BE MANAGED WITH MEDS, to be euthanized in next few days. Who can adopt or help? We are in immediate need of placement for Simba after his owner brought him to a vet requesting euthanasia because they say they can no longer afford his care, and are also moving across the country in a week. The caring vet refused, and reached out to us and said, 'Hands down the sweetest Chow I have ever met. He is two years old and in need of a new forever home. He is a very sweet boy who was diagnosed with discoid lupus erythematosus in July of this year. This is a hereditary autoimmune disease that causes ulceration of his mouth and nose. When under consistent treatment to suppress the inappropriate immune response (Atopica, cyclosporine) his symptoms seem to be well-managed. Owner reports he is good with other dogs and loves people, including kids. He has never had the opportunity to interact with cats and would require further evaluation for this, but he has never shown reactivity to cats in the veterinary clinic environment. He has always been good natured with our human team members as well, even when painful or stressful veterinary procedures are being performed.' Less costly treatments may also be available, but the owner was sadly not willing to give time to see if they may work. Instead, they gave 7 days to find a new home or they plan to euthanize him since they are moving. Simba is full vaccinated, neutered, and we have nice video of him interacting with other dogs. He was adopted as a young puppy from a pet store in Florida. He is now 2 %BE years old. Simba has no reported bites, lived indoors and is potty trained. If you can adopt, foster or help Simba in any way, please contact us asap at [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to help find him placement before he is killed. We will post additional pictures and video on his original facebpok post at: https://www.facebook.com/783968124/posts/10166425567963125/?mibextid=cr9u03 Note: to view the videos on his FB post, you will need to copy and paste the link into your browser.
