About Hendrix

Adoption Fee: $75
Lab / German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

This poor angel boy has been through it. 3-4 years old. 75lbs. Neutered, vaccinated, microchipped. House trained, crate trained. Hendrix was rescued from a high kill shelter in CA. We fostered him for several months, and found him a home in southern CA, in 2022. In August I received a call that Hendrix had been picked up by animal control in rural Alabama. After several failed attempts to locate the adopters, I started working on a plan to get him back to the west coast. He's now with me in Portland and we are trying to find him the RIGHT home this time! Hendrix LOVES fetch. Especially in the water. He loves water and will sniff out any water nearby. He loves to play 'find it' with his ball if you throw it in the bushes. He was almost accepted into the search and rescue program in 2022. Hendrix loves people, and does well with other dogs. He does best with tolerant dogs as his play style can be a lot for some. But he usually takes corrections from other dogs well. He would do best with medium to large dogs. I avoid dog parks and day cares as they can be overstimulating for him. But he does well in small groups of dogs at home or at friends houses. He is house trained and crate trained. He knows sit, down, in your house (crate), leave it, out, place, hut, stay/wait, and let's go. He sits and waits for his food, he sits for his leash, and he sits and waits for the door. Hendrix rides well in the car and can be left alone in the house. He is NOT good with cats. He has intermittent leash reactivity to strange dogs, likely from bouncing around shelters. It is getting better and easier with work, but he will need someone that will reinforce his training! I am a dog behaviorist and am willing to work with Hendrix and his family free of charge! Hendrix is an amazing and special boy and he deserves the best home. He has been through so much and remains kind and loving.
