12-9-24 Say hello to Olive! She is a 2 year-old (birthdate 1-29-22) Golden Retriever who entered foster care on December 3rd. Forever Home Requirements: *Physical fence preferred *Kids: 12+ *Dogs: Prefers to be only dog *Cats: Lived with cats in previous home See what her foster mom has to say: There is so much to love about Olive and the right family will appreciate what a great dog she is! She is a Velcro dog and will follow you most of the time. Coming from a single female household I thought she would be stuck to me but she has taken to foster dad and is missing his presence here as he is gone for a few days. She is affectionate to the extreme! And overuses the (BIG) paw to get attention - something we've been working on. I think she is easy to calm when she does get excitable just by asking her to sit and giving her love. So MANY positives! Fully housetrained and even in a new house she's already figured out how to tell us she wants out. Can be left with free range of the house (we've been gone up to 3 hours), doesn't counter surf (that may be due to her current figure!), has excellent recall in the house and yard. Her number one priority is her people and maybe toys, She is verbal when playing with toys - needs the tough toys but loves to have stuffies. We've let her have soft toys here as we supervise her time with them. Likes fetch. Sleeps in the bedroom on dog bed all night, she doesn't wander around at all. We laugh because she 'grumbles' and snores in her sleep! She craves companionship. She will turn 3 in January so lots of good things for her age group. She is very bossy with our dog. She resource guards toys and us, and yet can eat within a few feet of our dog, Kobe, without reaction or issues. This has never escalated beyond growling and small lunges at Kobe warning him away from whatever she's guarding. Kobe is very passive and non-reactive so it doesn't escalate beyond this. Bless my sweet boy's heart! For this reason I think she should be an only dog and work with training on appropriate responses to other dogs. She pulls like a train on a leash, so someone who will commit to training her for this also. She's smart and wants to please making her a good trainee. And she would be happiest as an only dog getting all the love and attention. She's a bit grabby with treats but has a soft mouth and I'm sure this would resolve with time. I'm really on the fence about kids, she saw my grands for a few minutes and was fine but I think with her craving attention I'm not sure she would do well with sharing kids either. Definitely not young kids in the home. Ideal home in my opinion: a couple (or a home with teen kids) who want a constant companion and has the ability to not leave her 5 days a week for a workday. Committed to training and walks. Dog experience would be a good plus. She deserves people of her own who would appreciate her immense amount of love and loyalty. I know, it's what every foster wants for their dog!! Submit your application today to be considered for Olive!
