About REX

Adoption Fee: $500NEG
Australian Cattle Dog
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

The Positives; Rex is a 1.5 year old, 35lb Mini Blue Heeler who is congenitly Deaf & his Superpowers are manifested in increased Intelligence, Hyperfocus & being the most Loving Working Dog I have ever met. He is always a Happy, Indomitable Spirit full of bounce back Smiling Energy who is still overflowing with that Puppy Dog Energy but when needed, you can turn Off upon Command. Rex loves Adults, Kids, Other Dogs, Dog Parks, Driving - he loves anything & everything & is without Fear, he does everything Full On including Sleeping. He will slide in beside you & craves Physical Contact. Unless instructed to Calm or Break, he never leaves your side. He could be a World Class Agility Dog, a Hiking Companion, Family Pet, etc. The Ideal Home is somewhere where Rex is the Only Dog with an enclosed Yard, with or without Kids & most importantly a Dedicated, Engaging & Patient Owner who can give him the Attention he needs as an Only Dog. Deaf Dogs are very easy to train (YouTube has many videos) & I will gladly share a few hours of my Time working with both of you. Presently he responds to the Hand Commands Yes, No, Sit, Down, Stay, Come, Stop, Calm, Break, Go, etc so long as he is in front of you. Rex walks perfectly on a Herman Spenger Pronged Leash. If you want him to be Unleashed when you walk him in Public with Cars, my suggestion is to use a 'Vibrating Only' E Collar Model PG300 made specifically for Deaf Dogs by Educator Collar. Takes about an Hour or so to train the Recall response with but this is something for the new owner ******* The Maybes: 1. Rex is Ball Obsessed as he was left in the Kennel Shelter with a Ball for 9 months (he thinks this is his Job). If another Dog goes for his ball, he can become Possessive 2. Rex must be the Only Dog in the Home, he loves all my Dogs but One 62lb Male at my Girlfriend's Resource Guards & they will fight & its very aggressive 3. Rex cannot be Off Leash in a Public Area unless you can run fast & get in front of him - slowly he is improving but he thinks any Person or Dog that he can see, is a new Best Friend waiting to meet him & he will run to meet them with Joy in his Heart when not Leashed with no thought to Cars (my Heart has stopped a few times this year). The same goes for when we are working at the Ranches on & off the Horse, while he will stay with my Pack most of the time, he is always at risk of running into Mountain Lions, Coyotes, etc. 3. Don't know how he is around Cats ******* Attention to Rex is taking away from my Pack of 3/Three High Drive Cattle Dogs. 3 to 5 of us are on the road in all kinds of environments in my Expedition Truck several days per week. And of course, Rex is always Glued to my side. Everyone is upset with this Usurper. This isn't his Negative, its entirely mine, he arrived with many challenges & some Dogs simply need & absorb more Love. Have owned hundreds of Working Dogs growing up on my farm in New Zealand, a few dozen here in the States & trained Thousands, I know Rex will be a Lifetime Blessing in the Right Home & to ensure this I will give you a Written Contract to take Rex back & return whatever we agree upon in Money if he doesn't work out for you & your Lifestyle. Moreover I am more than open to offering you a series of Overnights to give him a Slower Transition if needed until you are sure he is a Perfect Fit. And rather than Board him in a Kennel when you go away, if you live here in the general Los Angeles/Santa Barbara area I will gladly have him stay with my Pack & it is why this Post is so Transparent & Detailed, Rex is part of my Family & I will not place him in a Home that isn't a Good Match up front ******* Rex was rescued on a whim from a San Diego Shelter 180 days ago now (he was in the Shelter from age 3-12 months & it was his 1st Birthday on June 30th & they were about to euthanize him in the next hour - I drove 5 hours to the County Shelter to get another Dog they had been holding for me for 5 days but they screwed up & euthanised that dog an hour before we got there - I knew Rex was Special, we were not leaving without him). Upon Adoption I invested $1000 with my Vet & gave him a complete physical as he arrived from the Shelter with what I thought was maybe just an Ear Infection, he was not Potty Trained at all & had a Bladder Infection that made this more problematic. It took 10 days but he hasn't made a mess in the last 5 months. The Adoption Fee will be split with rescueme.org & includes 6 months of Symparica Trio (these tablets guard against Fleas, Round & Hookworms, Heart Worms & Ticks) & 3 months of Stella & Chewys Kibble, Wet Stew, Joint & Coat Supplements. Heelers are Bulletproof & very rarely need Veterinary Care, you can expect another 12-16 years of Perfect Health with him. I have all his Paperwork & he has had every Single Shot & is good for 2 plus years. Thank you for getting this far, I wanted any prospective Owner to know everything up front. If you want to see smore photos, I have Hundre
