Bear A728076 9 Months Old Staffordshire Terrier French Bulldog Mix Needs Rescue By 12/13/24 Bear is an approximately 8 month old male Staffordshire terrier mix was originally impounded on 9/3/24 following a level 3 bite/skin break (tooth scraping drawing blood w/no visible punctures) to a landscaper while tethered alone inside a dumpster enclosure within a business complex. When Animal Control Officers arrived alleged owner for dog 'Bear' arrived stating he is an unhoused individual who confined dog inside trash area so he could purchase items at a convenience store. Unhoused party stated he acquired dog from another unhoused individual, citing party claiming ownership was uncooperative with Animal Control & Police Officers to divulge additional information or formally release custody. Due to circumstances related to impound, 'Bear' was processed as a stray with unknown owner for quarantine. Bear was easily able to be impounded by officers without incident, following quarantine Bear exhibited positive socialization with other people and no displayed aggression towards other dogs allowing him to be eligible for special needs adoption with waiver. Bear was previously adopted on 10/24/24 but returned the following week due to exhibiting leash reactivity and/or fear aggression when taken to a softball game day following adoption, adopter reported Bear barked and lunged towards a group of male bystanders approaching them causing adopter to be uncomfortable with Bear interacting with people and other dogs. Bear has displayed severe barrier reactivity which the shelter has not been able to resolve or decrease through counter conditioning and enrichment. Bears prior skin break, adoption return status, and increasing barrier reactivity have prevented any further placement opportunities at the shelter. Due to continued declining behavior / deterioration in kennel Bear needs rescue by end of day Friday December 13th 2024.
