My name is Doug and I'm new in town. I'm not just your average cute California transplant - sure, I've got the big brown eyes and soft soul to match, but I'm so much more than a pretty face. I'm also an avid snuggler and snacker and my foster mom says I can nap with the best of them. I get along with most everyone - adults, kids, big dogs, little dogs, and probably even cats (though I haven't met one face-to-face yet). I'm a pretty mellow guy - I'm still figuring out how to 'dog' and don't quite understand toys yet. But, I love walks and being with other dogs. When I get really excited, I like to 'corncob' my packmates to show my happiness. I do great on-and off-leash and I've been working hard on recall and basic commands since coming to Portland. Check out these (totally unbiased) reviews by my foster mom: %BD' Wow, Doug is such a great dog! He's made huge strides since coming into foster care, including being more comfortable around people and coming out of his shell. He used to be unsure about human touch but now comes up for affection. %BD' Doug is non-reactive! He does great on-leash and behind fences with both people and dogs. Definitely not a guard dog, but who really needs more barking in their lives? %BD' Doug does well with young kids! He currently lives with two dogs and a part-time toddler. He's doesn't get into kids' faces very much and has interacted with young kids both at home and at the park. %BD' Doug does great with all kinds of dogs - large and small, fixed and unfixed, males and females. We've gone on many off-leash walks at the dog park and have come into contact with all sorts. Doug takes correction well (think a grumpy dog snapping). No ruffled feathers from him! %BD' Doug would do great as a second (or third) dog. He would also be a great companion for someone who works from home often. %BD' Doug is very soft and kind of chunky. He's a warm ham that you can take to bed for snuggles. Great for the upcoming seasonal shifts. %BD' Doug is crate trained! Need to go somewhere and don't quite trust a new dog in your home yet? Doug does well in a crate and sleeps in one overnight. %BD' Doug is housebroken! He wasn't when he first arrived, since he was living in a dog-rescue for the past year and half. But he picked it up quickly. %BD' Doug travels in the car well! He just kinda chills in the back seat and likes to stick his head out the window. No lunging at people outside. No incessant anxious barking that drives you up a wall. Just a nice, mellow car ride to the park. %BD' Doug is up-to-date on shots, flea meds, and dewormer. And he does well at the vet. Incredible! %BD' Doug takes baths very well! He got a bath on his first day here, when he was at his most unsure. He didn't get fear aggressive or try to escape from the tub. He's had subsequent baths and brushings since. %BD' Doug fits pretty much any energy level. He does great with a couple walks a day but can also go for longer hikes, if you want a hiking buddy. He isn't a high-energy working breed that requires constant exercise and attention. After a brief walk, he'll be back to snoring on the couch. As he is currently doing. %BD' Doug is not an escape artist! Once he bonds to you, he'll be by your side. We all went to 1,000 Acres recently and he stuck with the group. He does get scared at loud booms (like fireworks) but a little cheese coaxes him back to a grounded, cheesy mindset. %BD' Doug is half pit/half lab. True to his pit side, he's sweet and shy. True to his lab side, he loves to eat and isn't too picky. True to his dog side, he's looking for someone to love and be loved by. Whew, look at all those glowing reviews! I didn't realize how many wonderful attributes I have! With all that being said: Do you have room in your heart and your couch? Do you have an abundance of cheese that needs sharing? Maybe you're looking for someone with whom to catch up on all episodes of Love Island? Or perhaps you have a single fuzzy buddy who is searching for the same? If so, I'd love to meet you! I've been in foster for over a month and am ready to go to a new home, now that most of the settling-in kinks have been worked out.
