Groot, a sweet and energetic Chesapeake Retriever, is a lap dog at heart. He loves running and being loved, so he's a 60-pound love pup. He is crate trained and walks on a leash without pulling. Groot is sensitive to emotions and will come to assist when he senses pain or discomfort. However, our household lacks the energy to match Groot's enthusiasm. Our household consists of a nearly retired person and a disabled person, making it challenging to meet Groot's needs. He needs active people to love him and exercise him regularly. While we are able to take him to a safe area for a long, unleashed run once or twice a week, he craves more exercise than we can provide. Groot has coexisted peacefully with our cats, but he's shy and nervous around children. We're unsure how he'd fare with other dogs in a household, though if they are calm dogs, he'd likely be just fine. During walks, he avoids other dogs and only gets worked up if they approach him aggressively. Groot would thrive in a home where he can run alongside his person, as that's what truly brings him joy.
