This strikingly handsome odd eyed gentleman is Gunner who appears to be a Bluetick Coonhound/Catahoula Mix. Gunner was born on May 12, 2018, in a veterinary clinic where my former pet sitter worked. Having recently said goodbye to her dog, she picked Gunner from his litter of eight puppies to be her new best doggie buddy. For six years she and Gunner were each other best friends. Sadly on May 31, 2024, she was hospitalized with congestive heart failure and temporarily placed her beloved Gunner with a friend who promised to care for him. Even sadder on June 4, 2024, Gunner's mom passed away unbeknownst to myself or anyone else until June 18, 2024. On June 10, 2024, at 11:32 A.M., I received a text message from the rescue that had assisted his mom with Gunner. The text message was quite pointed, it noted that Gunner's mom had not been in contact with the individual with whom she left him, and was not responding to that individual's messages. For those reasons the rescue had scheduled Gunner for euthanasia at 2:00 P.M. on that same date, June 11, 2024. Incredibly disheartened and extremely irritated with the rescue, I reached out to the rescue organization's owner and agreed to take Gunner in as a rescue knowing that my former pet sitter would never abandon Gunner and likely must have passed away after being released from the hospital. Gunner has resided with me at a rental residence in which I reside since June 12, 2024. He has acclimated well and is an attention monger, needing to be near his human/humans, super gregarious, jumping up on you for attention with his ears flapping, tongue hanging out and eyes wide open. Gunner has interacted well with my five dogs and all doggies that he meets during his many daily walks. He is a puller when on leash as his enthusiasm for life is unbridled. I truly feel as though this boy realizes how very close he came to having his life snuffed out at age 6 simply because his mom died. As he has always been an exuberant guy, his deceased mom's vet placed him on Trazadone and Prozac in an effort to calm him. When he came to me he was receiving Trazadone and Prozac twice a day. My brother and I have been able to ween him to once a day and a lower once a day dose. We absolutely love him but are challenged already having six dogs between us, all rescues, two of whom are specially abled and two of whom are highly energetic like Gunner. Being in our early sixties and late fifties we do not have the energy we once had and Gunner deserves a more energetic physically abled mom and/or dad. He has been through so much in his life, as his mom struggled with her alcohol addiction, her medical conditions and at times homelessness. He is a resilient doggie man who will shower everyone he meets with love and affection in the form of hugs and licks whether you want them or not. A younger athletic individual or a family with older energetic children would be a great fit for this wonderful doggie man. He is such a good boy who very much wants to please. Gunner is crate trained, neutered, rabies, distemper and bordatella vaccinated. He has received monthly flea, tick and heart worm preventatives since he has been living with me and was treated for ehrlichia when he initially arrived at my rental residence. If feel as though you have the energy and time to become this dapper gent's best human friend, please feel free to reach out to me. You will it be disappointed with this doting, affable doggie man. I do when possible like to receive a vet reference for potential adopters.
