Dozer is a gorgeous girl who was found on a rural road. No one claimed her and she did not have a microchip. She is currently being fostered by a Good Samaritan who is unable to keep her for much longer. They've reached out to several rescues and organizations with no luck, and are desperately hoping to find her placement asap. Name: Dozer Age: One year, estimated Breed: Unsure, possibly Mastiff mix or Dane mix? Approximately 95 pounds. Sex: Female (not spayed) Location: Jackson County, IL Vet Info: Dozer is not spayed and has recently completed her first heat cycle. She received a one year rabies vaccine on 5/20/24 and also received her DHPPCL #2 the same day. She is blind, but may see shadows. Dog Info: Dozer loves people and walks and tries hard to please! She is in an indoor/outdoor kennel and doing well, but did need some time to get used to it. She is not housebroken but is leashed trained. Her Good Samaritan gave us more info: 'I have had Dozer long enough to say I am confident she can live a good life as a blind dog. I can also say her temperament is pretty good! She can be slightly defensive over food with other dogs, and sometimes other dogs struggle to understand her. All in all I would say everything I have seen of her is understandable given her sight. She LOVES people and loves to play with dogs. She absolutely loves walks and really like going for jogs. She knows some key words too. The tough parts: S he is huge. She is a mix of some sort of Mastiff/Dane. She takes some time to get used to an enclosure and can test it quite well. (I have her in a large indoor / outdoor kennel primarily.) She has been an outdoor dog primarily so indoors will be a new learning experience.' Dozer can be possessive of toys, treats, or food, but this has improved, and Dozer has never bitten. 'When Dozer first came she was defensive of her space, especially her food. (Defensive to dogs only, not human) She had been in a large pen with other large dogs before coming to me and those dogs were not respectful of her space) This has improved since being here, but my dogs are respectful....She has never put a firm bite on anything. She has never snarled at a human in anyway. She has been defensive over her food before if other dogs attempt to take it from her, she snarls and snaps in that circumstance with plenty of assertive behavior, but does not actually Bite' Dozer's Good Samaritan feels she adapts well to new situations and tells us Dozer prefers to map the area by herself. She's learned their yard and the stairs to the deck and loves her leash walks! Other than her vision, Dozer's Good Samaritan tells us Dozer is in excellent health. She also wants us to know, 'Having worked with Dogs for several years in a professional setting, I can assure you that this dog has a solid temperament. She is very healthy, very happy, and would make a wonderful companion.' Dozer is hoping for her second chance! Please email [email protected] if you're interested in Dozer. Please know we will ask for a vet reference. **Owner Surrender Disclaimer: These are blind and visually impaired dogs who are living in homes, but their owners were unable to keep them.
