Courtesy Posting: SO CAL 1 YR, PETITE, SWEET CHOW BOY, GOOD W/ OTHER DOGS, NOW NEUTERED, VACCINATED AND READY FOR A LOVING FOREVER HOME. Unbelievably someone dumped this adorable teddy bear we named Carmelo, along with another chow (Blackie) at a construction site where the two dogs roamed for weeks, starving. Both dogs eventually ended up at the Riverside shelter where they were soon to be euthanized. While a foster and rescue stepped up for Blackie, no one had offered to foster Carmelo. Since he could be euthanized anytime a good Samaritan (who has 5 other dogs) adopted him out just before he was killed with the intention to find him a good home asap, now that we know a more about him. Previously, the shelter hid him in the back and would not let him out. According to this good sam foster, 'He is so loving and sweet after a few days of showing you will not hurt him. He is a little shy at first but loves to follow you around the house and be next to you. He gets along with other dogs, not sure about cats. He is up to date on shots and vaccinations, but will need grooming badly. If you ever wanted a real teddy bear now is your chance. He weighs 30 lbs, is very small and petite and has a beautiful full coat.' Carmelo is now learning to live indoors, and uses a potty pad, as well is getting used to a daily walks and a routine to potty outside. Carmelo's foster and temporary home has several smaller female and one smaller male dog, as well as a male chow in it. We were told Carmelo has acted submissive to their males. He also did well with the male chow he was found with, but the two dogs later had an altercation in their kennel at the shelter, possibly over food, and were separated at that point. Altercations like these aren't too surprising when you have starving dogs thrown into a kennel with one food bowl. However, if you do have another dog, or pet, a meet and greet is always recommended, and to keep food areas for each dog separated to avoid potential problems. We are now looking or a responsible, loving and permanent home for Carmelo, ideally with chow experience. A foster-to-adopt situation may also be considered. To inquire about this adorable young man, please contact [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is assisting with his placement, and tell us more about you and your home and your pet experience. A home check and $150 rehoming donation is requested. Note: to view the other photos and video on his FB post, you will need to copy and paste the link into your browser.
