Courtesy Posting: SAN CLEMENTE (ORANGE COUNTY), CA (S CAL) - EMERGENCY! OWNER JUST DIED- CHOW SAVVY ADOPTER OR FOSTER AND RESCUE NEEDED ASAP FOR STUNNING HANDSOME CREAM CHOW BOY 'MING' IN HOME WITH NO ONE TO CARE FOR HIM SOON- GOOD W OTHER DOG AND CAT IN HOME Help! We found out about this urgent situation from out of town relatives on the east coast. Ming had lived with his loving owner who adored him since a puppy, but sadly passed away last month. Ming is now 5 years young and healthy, and was just brought up to date on shots 11/13. A person has been staying in the home and caring for him as a foster, but will be leaving in about a week, and Ming has no one after that to care for him, as no relatives were able to take him in due to other dogs and or small children. They do not want to take Ming to the shelter where he may not do well and likely be at risk for euthanasia. Ming is potty trained and has lived indoors his whole life, but has access to potty outdoors. According to relatives who just came in and took him for vaccinations on 11/13, ' the vet commented that Ming took both his shot and oral vaccines well and was never snippy. He is very sweet with his foster. I have not spent much time with Ming but he has been friendly to me, also riding in the car and being walked on a leash.' They also added, Ming, 'is friendly with the female small dog and female cat he lives with. The smaller female dog came to the home in November, 2019, after Ming.' We have nice video of Ming with the other dog, eating side by side, and the temporary foster putting their hand near his food bowl, without any problems. We were further told, 'due to the recent circumstances, multiple new people have come in and out of the house - including overnight guests - and Ming has not shown nervous or attacking behaviors at all, but has snapped at some who have tried to quickly pet his head or face. He has not spent much time with children, but the few times he did were in his home with his owner present and he was friendly. Ming has not been around children at all since 2022. With the vet staff and with his foster, Ming has been friendly. ' We have additional video of Mind enjoying being held and pet by those he trusts. But like many chows who have not been taken out of their home much, Ming does need time to warm up to new people before they should pet him, and to go slow. For example, 'he initially snapped at the groomer the first time he met her when she tried to put a leash over his head, she was able to slow down and get it on and groom Ming without a problem. She has commented how sweet Ming is. She has been his groomer for at least the past 8 months.' I f you would like to speak to this groomer, we can connect you. Additionally, there was an unfortunate incident where Ming bit someone a few years ago after they stuck their hand through the gate and tried to pet him. He also snapped at the pool man once, but did not break any skin. After this, they did not let him have access to this area of the yard unsupervised. In an effort to prevent any future problems, slow introductions are recommended, some training is recommended, and we are looking for a chow savvy home, with no young children. Ming has never had any formal training we are aware of, but we feel he could benefit from such. He will also be neutered as a condition of any adoption which should further help. With little time to find placement before he has nowhere to go, we are desperately looking for a chow savvy home or foster and rescue. Some transport may be considered for very qualified homes where risks are very minimal. Please contact [email protected] asap or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to find placement asap so Ming does not end up at the shelter and or euthanized. The other pets in the home have already found placement with family members who could take them in.
