About Oliver

Adoption Fee: 395
Australian Shepherd / Corgi
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Remember Oliver? The Charming 'Auggie' (Aussie/Corgi mix)! At just 2 years old and 36 lbs, Oliver is an affectionate and energetic companion looking for his velcro human. This lovable 'incorgnito' was returned to ASF because he requires a home with herding dog experience. In his foster home, Oliver has shown himself to be a loving, enthusiastic young dog with typical herder behaviors. His ideal home will be with someone who understands the energetic nature of a herding dog and can provide the structure he needs to be his best self. What You'll Love About Oliver: %BD' Social Butterfly: Oliver loves people and has shown a preference for women, but he's also affectionate toward his foster dad too. He enjoys playdates with small-to-medium female dogs and plays very nicely with his foster siblings. However, he's not a fan of large male dogs, so his best match would be with female canine companions. %BD' Cat-Friendly: Oliver totally ignores the cat in his foster home, making him a good match for homes with cats. %BD' Great on Walks: He's a joy on the leash and loves to explore the outdoors. %BD' Easygoing in a Pack: Oliver lives with three foster siblings, so he has no problem being one of many dogs (as long as they aren't male) in a lively household. His foster's home is also along a walking path with dozens of dogs passing by each day, yet Oliver pays no attention to them through the fence. Cuddle Bug and Adventure Buddy: Oliver's energetic, fun-loving nature makes him the perfect companion for all your outdoor adventures, while his cuddly demeanor at home means you're also getting a top-notch snuggle buddy for lazy days in. After a long day of playing, he enjoys hanging out with his foster mom on the outdoor sofa watching the sunset in addition to cuddling up in bed at night to watch TV. He's the perfect size to be your cozy little couch potato and bedbug! Things to Know: Oliver is a herding dog through and through, which means he thrives on structure, mental enrichment, and physical activity each day. Without this, his energy can build up and lead to overexcitement, sometimes displaying as excitement-driven mouthiness, which might be intimidating for those without breed experience. His foster has never seen any aggressive behavior-just an overly enthusiastic herder who needs gentle guidance! A great match for Oliver would be an adopter who can commit to: A Structured Daily Routine: Oliver thrives on a consistent routine that includes scheduled mealtimes, playtime, potty breaks, enrichment, physical activities, and enforced nap times. His foster will be happy to share the routine that has helped Oliver flourish! A Flexible Environment: No apartments or homes with strict noise regulations, as Oliver is quite vocal and tends to excessively bark when excited or needing something. For this reason, he's not suited to sound-sensitive or easily overstimulated owners. With positive reinforcement when quiet, he's learning to settle down nicely. Positive Training: Oliver is a quick learner, though he's still working on his 'stay' commands since his excitement leads to struggles with settling. He'll need a patient adopter to continue his training using calm, positive training methods. Oliver's Ideal Home: Oliver's foster parent has noticed he's a bit too excitable for homes with small children, as he may accidentally scratch them when he jumps up in excitement. He'd do best in a home with older children or adults only, ideally in a multi-dog household where he won't get bored (but without other male dogs). He'll thrive with adopters who have experience with herding breeds and understand his need for structure and enrichment. Oliver has made excellent strides in obedience, is crate-trained, and has been fully potty-trained with no accidents at his foster home. With a consistent routine and a loving, patient adopter, Oliver will thrive and bring endless joy to the right family.
