Courtesy Posting: LOS ANGELES, CA (LOS ANGELES ANIMAL SERVICES/NORTH CENTRAL SHELTER) - ADORABLE SWEET 8 YR GOLDEN SENIOR ' TOBY' WHO LOST HIS OWNER, AND NOW MAY LOSE HIS LIFE - 11/15 DEADLINE FOR MERELY BEING OLDER AND SLOWER- ID #A2169783 - OK W/DOGS. CODE RED! Senior Toby lost his family and may now lose his life. Because he is an owner surrender (his owner became disabled and unable to care for him), the LA City shelter expedited him to the euth list for no good reason other than he is older and moves slow according to them. However, video we have shows he can still trot. Please help us find an adopter, or a foster we can refer to a rescue, as Rescues need fosters to save his life. Pledges also will likely be needed for his rescue. Handsome, fluffy golden man Toby arrived at the North Central shelter on 10/29/24 after officers picked him up at his home because his disabled owner was no longer able to care for him. Initially, Toby was confused at the shelter. While it has taken him some time to warm up to his volunteer friends, once he does, that tail starts wagging and he'll let you pet his gorgeous mane. When out in the yard, Toby is independent and looks for ways to escape, pawing at the fence or gazing out looking for his family. He doesn't love walking on leash but he's getting better at it with practice. Toby is believed to be a golden retriever with possibly some chow but no breed is listed. He is 86 lbs, a bit overweight, and said to be 8 years old, but could be slightly older or younger. Toby is already neutered. Toby was tested with an 8 year old female husky and he was tolerant of her, mostly preferring to do his own thing. The dogs shared space in the yard well. He also met a small female pup who he gave a nice greeting to and then he went on his way (slow intros are always recommended). We have a number of sweet videos to share. Please note Medical notes 1. overweight senior dog with severe age-related conditions 2. Weak gait/ Stiff gait/ difficulty rising 3. Obese 4. Partial vision impairment (suspected limited due to bumping into objects). Toby MUST be rescued before 4:00pm 11/15/2024 or sooner if this medical condition declines. The shelter is no place for an older dog like Toby, nor does he deserve to die there. Toby deserves a soft bed and some TLC in his golden years. If you are interested in adopting and are chow savvy, please contact the Los Angeles Animal Services at (888) 452-7381 ASAP and ask for him by ID, or by using his listing link: https://24Petconnect.com/DetailsMain/LACT4/A2169783 or going to the shelter website: www.laanimalservices.com. Ask for Jaclyn. However, if you have interest in fostering, or any questions about Toby, please also contact [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network asap who will try to pair a foster with a willing rescue who may also assist with any necessary medical.
