Lake County Animal Care and Control just called and the two Anatolian shepherds that I picked up wandering in Middletown in 104 degree heat a month ago only have a short time left. They are beautiful young dogs and fully vaccinated, microchiped, heartworm negative and altered. They are sweet, love people, very affectionate, and are leash trained now. They get along well with other large dogs. Don't know about small dogs or cats. They respect good fencing and dont try to get out. They just hang out. Guardian dogs need someone that understands them. if not born into a herd, then need to be on the outside of the fenceline for a period of time, then gradually introduced. Apparently they got adopted as guardian dogs around goats, chickens, and cats, but it didn't work out and they were returned. The people had them for a week and they went after the goats and possibly chickens. They already had 2 guardian dogs and just hoped they would learn from them, but no proper training was done. These dogs either need to be trained to be guardians or would be better suited as pets or property protectors. Animal control recommends a meet and greet with people and other animals before adopting. Surgery fee has already been paid for so it would only cost $33 if over age 60, and $60 if under age 60. I am willing to help with adoption fee and transportation. Please help get the word out so these beautiful dogs are not euthanized.
