LANCASTER, PA My siblings and are working on clearing my late mother's estate in northern Lancaster, Pa. Her guard dog, Lydia an~8yo German shepherd, needs homed urgently. Lydia was used as a guardian dog and was kept alone in a large outdoor area with shade access during the day and penned at night. She can be very social and sweet but barks and jumps at her fence when approached by a stranger. We've found that she just needs to be feed and then lets you pet her belly. No history of biting. She's intermittently exposed to some kittens and a small Shih Tzu without problems. She is not house trained but is trainable I've reached out to family and friends but no one is able to take her. I worry that she could become more agitated in a small shelter and not be homed due to her age. We've tried Speranza Animal Rescue, Char-Wills, and MAGSR but they have no room. Her rabies vaccine is update. She weighs about 80lbs. Has not been to a vet in several years but has no known health issues.
