Beautiful 3.5 y/o brindle Plott Hound, Maple, is as sweet, friendly, and adorable as can be - one look into her pretty brown eyes, and you can't help but fall in love! One of her favorite pastimes is sitting on the deck, enjoying the fresh air and soaking up the sun. She also loves long walks/runs, puzzle toys, and affection in the form of pets and bedtime snuggles. Maple had a bumpy start to her young life. She was found as a stray and taken to a shelter, then stayed with a foster in an open rural area. The foster described her as calm/low energy and quiet. A year ago, she was adopted into a small home with a fenced yard in a somewhat crowded and active neighborhood. At first, Maple was exactly as described, but she soon started showing signs of anxiety, likely because she's having difficulty adjusting to the smaller space where there are constantly changing sights and scents - walkers, bikers, other dogs, cats, turkeys, and bears. The overstimulation feeds her anxiety and manifests in barking, pacing, and pawing - and it's understandable; her current environment is not meeting her needs. Maple is currently very well loved, but given her breed and temperament, would better thrive in a home with more open space and the freedom to run/exercise and do all the things she was bred to do. Her ideal new owner would be someone who can handle 50 pounds of high energy and has the time and skills (or means) to bring out her best qualities through training. She's a social, playful dog and, though her rambunctious nature would be a challenge for a family with small children, she would do well with older kids or, better yet, a friendly canine companion.
