About Mia

Meet Mia! This spunky, sweet little powderpuff is 2 years old and 12lbs. Our best guess is that she's a Maltese/Terrier/Poodle mix. She is seeking a committed, loving home that will offer her the structure and positive reinforcement she needs to thrive. Mia is a loving, playful girl who adores pets, cuddles, laps, walks, toys, and peanut butter. She can be timid and easily startled, but is very curious about the world and thrives with kind, gentle treatment. She has made wonderful progress in her foster home. Mia is house-trained and her potty habits have been excellent. She also walks nicely on a leash and behaves well when home alone. Her best-match home will have dog experience and offer a structured, safe environment with proper exercise, enrichment, and training with positive reinforcement. Mia will also need regular brushing and professional grooming to keep her fluffy, wavy coat tangle-free. Mia was surrendered by her original owners due to behavior challenges that they did not have the experience or knowledge to address: - She may growl when strangers approach her too quickly in her home. - She growls when other dogs approach her toys. She also once growled at an unfamiliar person who tried to take away a toy. She has not shown any resource guarding with her foster mom or other guests. - She gets overstimulated easily, which can result in vocal behavior, gentle mouthing, and humping people. Mia is very young, and was not offered appropriate structure or training in her previous home. In her foster home, all these behaviors have improved quickly with simple management and positive reinforcement. We know she'll continue to thrive with a kind, dog-savvy caretaker! We're also very happy to provide training resources and ongoing support. Mia would do best as the only dog in her home. She has not lived with cats before, but we'd be happy to arrange a cat test. Due to her fragile size and tendency to get overstimulated with play, Mia is not a good fit for homes with children under 8. Mia is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and dewormed.
