I adopted Frank about 4 months ago from SL County animal services. The information I received was he was surrendered due to a dog fight the owner broke up and she got bit. However, I feel like there was more to the situation of his surrender than that. Frank is VERY into resource guarding of his human and will aggressively go after anyone he feels is a threat to his person. However, the same person he may not let get close to his human he will be fine around unless they're trying to get close to his person. He is so loving and sweet but he is very protective. But that same person he is aggressive towards, if it's just him and that person, he is fine around. He is also very sensitive to people getting down in his face, unless it's a human he likes, then he will let you love on him and give him kisses-but he doesn't not like strangers getting down to his level. I have been using an ultrasonic dog barking deterrent device and it does stop his bad behavior. I would caution that only his person should use the device. He has gone to dog daycare and will randomly pick one dog he doesn't like and have issues with just that dog, but it's enough that he's got into fights at daycare. I did have him in a week long intensive training program and they had the same thoughts-he will just pick a dog and fight with just that dog. He currently lives with a cat and LOVES the cat. He loves kids and hasn't had any issues with them. I am outlining his issues so the absolute right human ends up with this sweet boy. He will love his person immensely which is why it's really best he be in a single adult household. I love this dog and don't want to get rid of him by any means but I do feel he would be better suited in a single female household. He deserves to be in a home where he can walk around freely and be loved on and love on his person. I am also worried about him ending up back in a shelter due to these issues, which is why I would really want his adopter to be aware of them before and not be blindsided like I was.
