Abby is a one yr old Havanese female weighing 10 pounds. She is super cute but not a dog for every owner! Abby came to us several months ago when we received a call from our vet about an 8-month-old pup the senior owners wanted to have euthanized for scratching and biting. We have taken a very patient approach to Abby. As a puppy her development did not start off right. She was given Trazadone starting at 8 weeks instead of positive and consistent training and socialization. As we watched and interacted with her, we found her biggest problem is resource guarding and striking out if another dog or human wants that possession. Most items like toys and chews are not worth fighting with her to take the item. We are continuing to teach her 'leave it' with growing success. Rewards on dropping are games of fetch and drop it again and again or a treat for 'leaving it 'and now at times just a verbal reward and loving pat. Abby eats and sleeps in a kennel. Housebreaking in a new environment may backslide and will need consistency and positive reinforcement for success. She loves attention from her humans. She is playful with others often teasing with a toy, but that behavior needs to be watched. Abby is looking for a family/adopter who is patient knowledgeable and not afraid to reach out to a doggie behavioralist if they need assistance. Regular exercise for Abby and mental stimulation are a must. Abby is spayed, microchipped, vaccinate, heartworm negative and has a vet evaluation. Her adoption fee is $400.
