Meet Merle, a 2 year male border collie. Merle is super sweet and has never met a stranger. He is very outgoing and just wants to please his people. Merle is your typical Border Collie who has a busy mind and needs lots of room to run. He would be best suited to an active home or a home with some property. Merle likes to run and play with other dogs but much prefers his people. He has a good recall but needs further training. Merle acts like a big floppy puppy and could use some work on training. We have already made a lot of progress with traits like jumping up on people but some further work would be recommended. He is very good natured and everything he does has good intent, just a young excited dog. Merle is one of those dogs that just wants assurance that he is a good boy. He is very gentle and has a 'soft' disposition. He is also sensitive so an experienced handler is a must. Merle's main hurdle right now is crate training and being left alone. We are experiencing some separation anxiety and he does need to be crated when left alone. He loads up in the crate nicely but will bark when left alone, so this will need to be considered managing with adoption. Merle Needs A home with border collie or herding dog experience A home where people are present more often than not to Work on further training like manners and separation anxiety An active and stimulating home (great hiking and running partner!) A home that has a secure yard Another friendly dog would be a bonus NO CONDOS, APARTMENTS, OR CONDENSED LIVING I know this is often said about working breeds, but this dog really needs a job. Whether its stockdog or pursuing sport prospect, Merle really needs and outlet. The good news he does have an off button and settles nicely in the evening. He really loves affection and can be a cuddle bug. Merle is neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on vaccines. Mostly house trained. If he sounds perfect for you, please fill out our application: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to his new furever family.
