Beautiful female Great Dane age about 4 years old. She was rescued in May 2024 from a puppy mill in Florida where she lived in pretty terrible conditions. Zoey came up with quarantine rules due to being out of state. Our first contact was when she was put in our car to come home as a foster to adopt. We were told very little history and came to find out that my husband must resemble in size, shape or voice to someone in her past. To put it into words, Zoey is petrified of him. I am her chosen person. If I am not home she will not move from her bed, go outside to use the bathroom or eat. This has proven tricky because I work away from the home for days at a time. My husband and I have had a trainer out an handful of times to try and teach us how she can grow to accept him. We have spoken with behavioral animal therapists. Unfortunately she is still very scared and unresponsive to him. We can see how much our new dog is stressed daily and it is not very fair to her to continue living with this arrangement. Ok, that's the bad stuff. Zoey LOVES getting in the car and going to the dog park and running with the others. Yes, she is always the biggest dog but I do not think she knows that. As a mom herself she does well with the little guys as well as the bigger ones. She has never showed aggression in the home or in public. There are 4 children and 2 cats in our home and Zoey has done well with them. One cat prefers not to interact and he keeps his distance. Zoey has her happy bounce when she knows we are going to the bus or to the park. She is happy on a leash and loves treats. While she is a small 130 lbs:) she does not require too much exercise and loves her sleep. Zoey also did very well at transitioning to our beach house through the summer and the dog park down there. It is with a very heavy heart that we are seeking to rehome this gorgeous girl. We think she would do best with a predominately female caregiver. She does great with children and other animals. Her protective instincts are extraordinary. Never fear while under her watch. We are prepared to give any needed items that we have. Zoey sleeps on a twin mattress with a waterproof case. We have extra sheets. Toy, dishes and anything that may be needed. Please help us find a forever home for Zoey where she is not scared or stressed:)
