It is with a very heavy heart that we have decided to rehome our corgi, Wally. He is a really fabulous boy, but has some special needs and requires a special person to take care of him. We are dealing with some health issues in our family and his behavior is compounding this. Wally was rescued from a Korean meat market when he was approximately one year old. We got him shortly after that in 2019 and don't know anything else about his history before us. He is neutered and up to date on all vaccines. He is fully house trained. He is physically very healthy. Wally is an anxious dog that can be reactive. 99 percent of the time he is a very well behaved dog, but he is hyper vigilant and has a hard time relaxing. He is triggered easily. This may be due to trauma occurring in his first year. He has had significant fights with our other two corgis in our house over the years. Usually it was over toys or food. This has escalated and we just can't manage it in our home any longer. Our corgi girl, Jessie, is elderly now and we can't continue to put her through that. He has never bitten a human except for inadvertently when we have broken up fights. He has had minimal exposure to children, but has done fine with them in the past. We recommend a home without young kids (under 10) for now. He has done okay with the cat we used to have. We work with a trainer and Wally sees a vet for medications to help manage his behavior. He also is on a prescription hydrolyzed protein food. Wally absolutely loves toys, tug of war, car rides, and especially playing ball. He loves his naps on the couch too and knows how to properly use a pillow! He does well on a leash, but we live out of town on property so we don't walk him much due to his dog reactivity. He does tolerate a muzzle. The perfect person for Wally would be savvy to the needs of a reactive dog, with NO other pets in the home, and committed to continuing his force free training and medication. He needs plenty of room to play, a fenced yard, and lots of toys. He flourishes with human companions and is a working breed so someone who is home most of the time is ideal, although he has never shown separation anxiety. If you think you are the person to love him and give him a forever home, please contact me and we can have a more in depth conversation. He really is a great boy and we adore him!
