About Marley - Urgent

Anatolian Shepherd / Belgian Malinois
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

This is sweet Marley. She has been in my local shelter for over 4 months already - and she really needs out as she's not thriving in that environment as she seems a bit depressed. Please help this sweet girl out. She's a volunteer and staff favorite! She is incredibly sweet and affectionate. Looooves her pets, butt scratches and being brushed and will stay by your side just for those. She is very gentle, too. Does not jump, walks exceptionally well on the leash and is fully house broken - even after 4 months shelter life she won't poop on the concrete. She is currently not food motivated, but that could change with a different schedule, food, and of course not being slightly depressed by the circumstances. But she will politely and gently take the food, and then hide it in her bed or, if outside, bury it somewhere. :) She's in great health, but could probably gain a few pounds. She should ideally be your only dog. If you have a smaller one, it could work out, as she was previously in a home with a smaller dog and apparently also small children and she was great with them (especially the children). But with larger dogs she's very selective and can be quite reactive. In a loving home where she can be comfortable and gain confidence that might absolutely change, but of course it's not a guarantee. She really just needs a chance to become her true and best self. She likes doing her random zoomies when she's in her yard, and has a tendency to dig when not supervised. But in this situation it's not really surprising. She only barks when there's a dog she doesn't like, but she won't bark at people. When I first met her she warmed up to me quickly, so she does not seem too timid when it's a one by one introduction. She was returned by her last owners because the couple was elderly and became too fragile for her strength (she's around 65 lbs, and easy to fully get under control by me, 5'4 average woman). Before that she was rescued from a hoarding situation, so we don't really know what happened there. We estimate her to be around 4 years old. Anatolian and Malinois mix (along with other breeds) is what the dog scanner says. I am one of the volunteers who instantly fell for her. Fostering is not an option unfortunately and I am not ready to adopt. But I really want to help her find a good home. Feel free to contact me 206-487-0455 for more info or the rescue directly.
