We are in need of finding a new home for our boyo, Angus. My partner, Kristyn, reached out inquiring about capacity back in August as we were trying to evaluate options. We want to find him a home that can shower him with love, hang out with him, & he can create a lovable bond with. He still has a ton of his puppy playfulness & his more adult lay around while you do stuff. He loves being outside, laying on or near the couch, & generally within eyesight or arms reach of you. About Angus We adopted Angus in 2019, where his curiosity, goofiness, & affection won us over. Kristyn was looking for a mid-size snuggly rescue toward the end of 2019. What she found was a rather large friend digging in the trash for leftover cinnamon buns - a pup the shelter thought was an Akita. The day after Thanksgiving, she brought him home. We eventually did a doggie DNA test only to find he is 100% Alaskan Malamute. We worked hard to learn how to walk (less dragging me around) on a leash and to teach him he *would* be fed again (and to eat at a good consistent pace and he will always have a next meal). He moved with her from Danville, IL to Seattle, WA and back to the midwest again - where we are now. He is a big, lovable doof that loves to lay around, soak up all the pets & scratches, and be with his people. He has lived in Indiana, Illinois, & Seattle, making friends all along the way. He is around 6-7 years old & we do not know his backstory before adopting, but he is generally anxious when unsettled. He has grown more mellow with comfort and age - no longer needing anxiety medication like he did when he was younger. He is also a goofy sweetheart. Angus will choose the smallest squeaky toy to play with and he will lean on you all day given the chance for pets and attention. We love him so much, but with a new baby - we are not able to give him the time & love we used to, he deserves, and that we want to. Breed: Alaskan Malamute (Purebred) Age: 6-7 Years Gender: Male Neutered: Yes Housetrained: Yes Location: McCordsville, IN Up to date on vaccines: No, but we can if needed. Due for annuals in November 2024. Crate Trained: No (and cannot be). We didn't get his backstory but he was not able to be crate trained (will hurt himself attempting to get free) and was very scared of a basement which leads me to believe he was locked up and/or mistreated before us. Our vet has him take Gabapentin before vaccines. Food Aggression: Past - Yes. We have a small female shiba inu that is also a rescue & they both had food aggression. We feed them separately out of caution, but they share water & toys with no problem. Since we don't know a lot of either of their histories with food/access to, quick separate room feeding felt safest & least stressful for them both. He loves food, but has not been aggressive with us over food (when he has gotten food he wasn't supposed to have or peanut butter sandwiches, he gobbles them up so fast that it's gone in a flash anyway). Gets Along with Other Dogs: Yes Gets Along with Other Pets (cats): We do not know. He lived with one for about a year and avoided her/seemed stressed more than anything, but that was 4ish years ago where his overall anxiety & temperament were adjusting to non-shelter life. Gets Along with Children: Unsure. He has not spent a lot of time around kids. He is tolerant & likes to watch from his space. He doesn't like people (anyone) up & in his face - but he communicates well if he is feeling any sort of way (rrrrrr type growl when he has a toy he wants to keep or touching he doesn't like). With the unpredictability of children (and how well they have been taught to interact with dogs), he just hasn't had a lot of exposure. Submissive/Dominant: He is stubborn and also a big baby. It may depend on the situation/surroundings. He has not forced his dominance (his shiba inu sister is more dominant) & plays a stubborn passive role.
