Shelby came into rescue from a puppy mill, having never known the feeling of love and security. It takes a little time for her to warm up, but when she does, she will never leave your side. She is the perfect lap dog. Even though she is fostered with many other dogs, she prefers to sit right by foster mom's side rather that engaging in play with the other dogs. Shelby LOVES food. Her foster parents have been trying to get her to slow down when she eats, but we feel that due to her background she is always afraid of missing out. This should improve with time, but we would recommend using a slow-feeder food dish for now. She is not food aggressive but gets overly excited when she is given a treat (aka baby shark). Her foster parents have also been working on her potty-training skills. If you take her out and wait patiently, she will do her business outside, but this her potty training will need continued positive reinforcement, and she should be let out on a regular schedule. She does need more leash training as well. Coming from a puppy mill, she was never walked on a leash before coming into rescue, so she will need further work and patience in this area too. She has been spoiled with a fenced in back yard at her foster home! Shelby craves love and attention and would like nothing more than to be by your side 24/7. She would do best with an adopter who is either retired or works from home. Although Shelby is fine with other dogs, she would thrive as an only dog where she would be the center of her person's universe. Shelby is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm negative. She is being fostered in Austintown, Ohio and her adoption fee is $400.00.
