Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance from Wilmington, DE for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit. Meet Matilda! Matilda is a 14-year-old, 5 lb., Chihuahua mix who was found as a stray and brought to a crowded shelter. Scared and alone, she really needed a new beginning.�%A0 Matilda was brought into rescue and given time to decompress. She clearly wasn't treated well before, because she is very afraid of people and will sometimes shake and cry. Matilda's new owners will need to be super patient. Her ideal home would have another small, low-energy dog she can take comfort from and play with. Matilda came in with no hair and underweight. She has gained a pound and a half and now has some peach fuzz on her head.�%A0 Matilda had several teeth removed and was also treated for parasites. She has good vision and hearing, can handle a few stairs, and gets along well with dogs and cats. Matilda does well on a potty schedule and also uses pee pads, but like most seniors, she can have an occasional accident. Matilda doesn't do well on a leash at this time, so a yard she can explore would be great. An adult-only, quiet home would be the best fit for this sweet girl. Matilda needs a dedicated owner that will let her have her independence, while showing her life can be amazing. She loves to eat, and does happy dances with other dogs.
