About Callie

Meet Callie !! The fastest little cutie on three legs you've ever seen. Despite missing a leg she has adapted so well. She's an awesome dog. Very smart and eager to go on all the adventures. Callie is a 7 month old female. She is a miniature Poodle and German Shepherd mix. (Her previous owner met her parents) She currently weights 30 pounds. She has an overall thin build and likely will stay medium size. Her mom was only 30 pounds. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccines. She is heartworm negative. CALLIE IS NOT HYPOALLERGENIC. Simply mixing poodle with things does not do that as the doodle trend claims. With that said she does not shed much compared to a regular shepherd. She lost her rear leg due to an injury as a puppy. She's recovered amazingly and gets around very well. She can be a slight bit wobbly at slow speeds but as soon as she starts jogging or running she becomes extremely agile. She is very fast! Juking and out running all the dogs in her foster home. She loves to run and would do best with a fenced yard. She continues to surprise us with what she can do on three legs. She can run up and down a full flight of stairs with no issues at all. Callie definitely has more of a shepherd personality and energy level. She's in the teenage stage of puppyhood. She's very smart and tries to listen but many times her excitement gets the better of her. Overall she does well but will definitely need a home willing to give her consistent training, structure, and some good exercise time every day. She loves all dogs. Instant friends with everyone big and small. She loves to chase and be chased by the dogs. Her previous owner said she likes cats but does like to try and play with them. Not all cats will like that. She's been great with kids and was raised with them. She still does some jumping up and minor playful mouthing of hands but overall it's done in a gentle manor. She may knock over little ones but it's not to an excessive level. Callie is crate trained but will bark and whine when left. If you tell her no a few times she usually stops. She's pretty good about her potty training. She's never gone in the crate and so far hasn't had any accidents inside. She does however nervous pee a lot the first day or two. That fades and becomes way less frequent as she starts to feel safe. She does pretty good on the leash for outings. She's very treat motivated which helps with training. She has had no trouble sharing food, treats or toys with other dogs or humans. Callie is really a delightful and fun dog. She's good at alerting to anyone coming near the house or yard but isn't excessively vocal aside from that. She acts like a shepherd in most regards but is about half the size. She will give a very good show of barking when new people enter the yard etc but she does it while running far away from the 'threat' After a few minutes of ignoring her she becomes their best friend. She's definitely active and needs a good outlet for her energy but has done well being crated during the work day. She's just very excited and ready to go when you get home. She LOVES water. She really enjoys playing in the hose. Overall this girl is a real gem. She's extremely sweet and loving with a fun adventurous side.
