So I reluctantly and with a broken heart, have decided it's in her best interest to try to Rehome Penny. She's an absolutely beautiful cat with the sweetest temperament!! BUT she is a MANX and has NO TAIL!! This is a HUGE attraction for many, willing to pay $500-1500 for these babies%BD'%BD| HOWEVER, it's a LIFELONG commitment! When I rescued her from Penn Yan, covered in fleas and scabs, bleeding from digging herself open, nose and eye infection. I had no idea the value she held! It was a 'find a Penny, pick it up, all day long, you'll have good luck!' I didn't just run out and pick a cat with no tail! I took in a cat that needed serious care, with all the best of intentions. She was covered in 1000s of fleas, my niece and I drove to the store and bought combs, shampoos, gloves, and went to the public bathroom at a local park and bathed her for 4+ hours. She was bathed, combed, hand dryer used to dry her, comb out more fleas, pick them out, and then bathed again!! Then we drove the 35 mins home with her, and continued to remove fleas by hand a few more hours. After she was cleaned, she was taken to the vet and given meds for deworming, and wounds were cared for!! She was taken to the vet 2 wks later and he removed an 8' tapeworm from her rectum that was bleeding. She's since been to the vet and had all her vaccines, which are all up to date. Rabies, Feline Leukemia, FVRCP. I initially planned to keep her, however once the vet told me on the 4th visit that she did NOT have a UTI and the leaking of urine is life long, due to her lack of a tail, I knew it was more of me FOSTERING her until I could find a forever home. I didn't want to admit it, because I've NEVER been one to admit when I can't do something. However, I have leukemia, I am immunocompromised and have no platelets, so I have zero ability to fight off infection, nor clot when scratched. Last night, during her bath, she tore up my hand and arm, because the sprayer hose fell and scared her. She usually holds still for her daily baths. I'm physically, unable to keep this up on a daily basis, and it pains me greatly. My son adores her. He doesn't have any issue putting a diaper on her, allowing her to cuddle with him, and using some wet wipes to clean up her hind end. She's absolutely adorable and I don't want someone to just release her outdoors to freeze or starve to death. I strongly suggest anyone interested to research Manx cats! It's an undertaking! She wears diapers in the house as she has stress, urinary incontinence which is due to the lack of nerves and sensation around the tail. She hops like a bunny as her hind legs are longer than the front due to the curvature of the spine%BD'%BD| which is adorable to watch, but causes her to piddle with exertion. She would be perfect for someone in the country with a large barn and other animals!! I haven't had her spayed yet, that was next but after 4 vet visits, URI meds, eye drops, deworming, tape worm extraction 2 Mo ago, vaccines, along with the cost of diapers, washable pee pads, and a 3 tier condo that she is stuck in while I'm not home, I've already invested more than $600 in Miss Penny! She needs to be able to run and play all day, not just when I'm home and I've put a diaper on her! Inside, she has limited time and is still so small that she doesn't ambulate well with the diapers on. She'd be a great addition to any farm!! I DO NOT want someone with wall to wall carpet to take her and then put her down because she's stinking up their house! This is a 15 year commitment!!! Serious inquiries only!!! No I'm not asking for $1500, but you're welcome to make a donation to the RescueMe Organization!
