Timber is a pure bred Bernese Mountain Dog. Timber was born June 30, 2022 (2 years old). Timber is an active boy, and loves to go on hikes and to play fetch. He absolutely loves fetch! Timber is potty and crate-trained. At times, he is obedient, and at other times, he wants to do his own thing. He is a dog who loves to teethe, and will go after personal belongings if he doesn't have a steady supply of things to chew, so we don't let him have free roam inside our house; we also try to keep track of outside belongings because small objects left outside will get chewed. We do not allow him around other peoples' children because there have been isolated incidents where he (for reasons unknown) has been afraid of a child and nipped at a small girl. This was years ago, and I have no idea why it happened, but ever since then we have leashed him when other children come over. Timber also occasionally growls at my wife when she disciplines him. Occasionally when she disciplines him with a smack on the nose, he will growl at her. He does not do this to me, probably because I am an adult male. For this reason I think Timber would do best with an adult male owner. Following doctor's recommendations, Timber was not neutered until he was 1 year old. Timber seems to do well with other dogs, he has never gotten in a dog fight. He does very well with our cats. We brought home two kittens when he was 18 months old and he was curious and sniffed them but has never made any move to hurt them in the 9 months we have owned the cats. He does like to play with them, (play-bow and running around) which sometimes scares them, but they do not fear him as a general rule. Together recently Timber and one of the cats killed a rabbit and were happily eating it side-by-side. Food sharing does not seem to be an issue. I will add this - Timber has pica. I was not familiar with pica before I got this dog, but he will chew and eat everything. Any clothing left out for them is going to be torn apart and eaten. Socks are like candy. Shoes and shoe laces will not last more than an hour. We have tried a number of things to resolve it, but we settled on keeping the dog outside when he is not in his kennel. He has fun roaming around the land (we live in rural Idaho). We do not really let the dog inside. When we do, he is leashed up so he cannot chew our house apart. He has even chewed the leashes. I mention all of this so you know what you are getting yourself into. The pica and the growling-at-my-wife-when-disciplined are the reasons we are seeking to re-home Timber. Email me with questions. You should be willing to drive most of the distance to North Idaho to get Timber.
