About Pennywise AKA Penny

Adoption Fee: $30
Chihuahua mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

We adopted Penny from Tacoma Humane Society just a handful of months ago. We had no idea how sideways our life would go right after welcoming her into our lives. We had a layoff, a sudden $25K house repair, and a child diagnosed with a disability that will require weekly medical appointments. Though we have tried our best to give Penny as much love and attention as possible, we are simply unable to care for her the way she deserves. We are devastated, but we know that the best thing for this sweet girl is to find her a home that can truly cherish and put energy into her. Penny would thrive with a family in which she is the sole focus, ideally with a person who is retired or works from home. We are working on crate training, but she has severe separation anxiety and pants/salivates to the extreme when left alone. So this is something her future family would have to be patient with and really work with her on. She is fine with other animals and kids when introduced, but she needs a lot of attention, so someone with a busy job that takes them out of the house or someone who has their attention split due to a lot of other pets or children likely won't be a good fit. Penny would really benefit from long walks, clicker training (she is very responsive and treat motivated), and possible dog day care or classes. She responds to her name, is house broken, and knows sit, stay, down, and can play fetch. She is also a puppy, so she is big on chewing and has no sense of self-preservation. We caught her trying to eat a rock more than once. She really needs 'power chewer' toys, such as kongs, ropes, tires, and pig ears to keep her happy. She is small but very mighty! Penny is spayed, has been given all her shots, and had an exam as recently as a month ago or so. She was prescribed daily medication for anxiety, but we are hoping that she won't have to be on that for long if her future owners can work with her on her crating skills or get her to the point where she doesn't need to be crated. (We've tried to leave her out in our house, but she chewed up some items.) She is otherwise in great health. She has a very sweet temperament. She loves to play and be close to her people. Again, we are so heartbroken to have to do this. She is a special little girl and she deserves a forever home. Serious inquiries only please. Thank you.
