About Oliver Twist

This beautiful, young hound showed up about a month ago. He is possibly a Redtick Hound? but not sure. He was skin and bones and most likely days from death. He has adopted our elderly neighbor, she is feeding him and he will let her touch his head. In turn he brings her 'gifts', an empty tool bag, someone's outdoor mat, a squirrel carcass... He is an energetic guy and has almost knocked her down so he is a hazard for her. We have also tried to win him over with treats and he is always eager and happy to see us but is very hesitant. He will finally, after a lot of work, take treats from my hand but I can't touch him. He has never shown any form of aggression. We are very slowly making progress but winter will be here before we know it and he can't continue to live on the neighbor's back porch. I have scoured the missing pet sights in our area, there are no listings for him. Given his condition he was most likely neglected. We are assisting the neighbor but neither of us are able to care for Oliver long term. He has managed to win all of us over with his sweet goofy face and we would love nothing more than to see him have a happy life. None of us want to see him go to the shelter, it would be a sure death sentence for him. In my opinion, he shows abundant potential. He's loaded with personality and just needs the right person that is familiar with hound temperament and is patient enough to gain his trust. We would be so grateful for any help rescuing this guy and willing to assist in that process in whatever way is needed.
