Hi! We adopted Lumos from a local shelter when he was 16 weeks old. We are veteran dog owners and other than some marking issues prior to neutering (gone now) and his issues with the children, he's been a great dog. When I say issues with the children I mean specifically my youngest 2 who are 3 & 5 and are both on the autism spectrum. It's not the dogs fault. The 2 young children are having a hard time with boundaries and their behavior towards Lumos. Lumos has developed some fear towards them and sometimes growls at them. Due to the children being autistic, they do not understand the social cues and will not stop pursuing the dog when he's being fearful. I am afraid that this will cause an unfortunate incident. So it's not a 'dog behavior' problem. It's a problem unique between the fearful dog and the children who can not reasonably assess, even given guidance, how to treat the dog. I've sought 5 trainers and the dog wizard of Atlanta and they all believe it's in the dogs best interest to find a home without young autistic children. I am also of course worried that the fear might turn into the children getting hurt. And it's not their fault either.
