Piper is very smart with a lot of energy, so she needs regular walks and a big property to run. With regular activity, she can be calm and lay around the house. She is pretty independent and won't follow you everywhere. She rarely barks. She has been trained to sit, lay down and shake. She can be good at fetch but needs more practice with that. She goes on a SUP with you and does well sleeping in a tent. With some reactivity training and a little maturity - she would make a great adventure companion. Piper is very reactive to other dogs though while on a leash and is very strong. She needs a handler who is patient and strong and is experienced with training dogs of this breed. She recently went after a dog while on a walk and pulled me to the concrete and attacked the other dog. When off leash at the dog park, she is very friendly and plays well with other dogs. She is okay with cats but would be best in a house without cats or small children. Definitely NO chickens or ducks - she killed 2 of our chickens (dug under the fence to kill the second one). She is very sweet but has several habits that people might find difficult. She jumps, nips at you when she needs a walk, digs, chews, and pulls things off the counter like food and compost bins. She is not crate trained and is very triggered by crates (probably because she came from a shelter in Idaho). After we started leaving the back door open, so she had access to the yard when we were gone, she stopped pulling things off the counter and chewing stuff up, but digging holes in the yard and the garden has continued.
