Courtesy Posting: EMERGENCY IN PHOENIX (SUN CITY), AZ - OWNER DIED, 2 CHOWS LEFT BEHIND IN UNOCCUPIED HOME W/ NO FOOD OR WATER- NEED ADOPTERS OR FOSTERS FOR EACH OR BOTH, AND RESCUE- PETITE FEMALE CHOW 'MITZZI' AND MALE CHOW 'BUDDI', MAY BE FOSTERED OR ADOPTED SEPARATELY OR TOGETHER Help! We found out about this desperate situation where these two stunning chows went for days with no food or water after the owner passed away, and the other owner with Alzheimer's was taken to a permanent care facility. While we have since gained access to the home and arranged for food and water, the home and furnishings are being put up for sale in a few days, so these poor dogs need a place to go asap, either separately or together. Otherwise, the next of kin, a son out of state, has already scheduled for euthanasia as he cannot afford the house or to keep them. In fact, they were already to be euthanized earlier this week, but we begged for a slight extension of time, in hopes we can find homes or fosters quickly. Both Mitzzi and Buddi are now approximately 8 years old, adopted as puppies and were apparently adored by their owners. The son told us his parents described them as 'gentle angels' to them, and friends who knew them said these dogs were their owners' world. While both dogs were understandably and initially traumatized when found with no food or water for days, in addition to losing the only owners they have known, like many chows, they do warm up to people, once they trust you.. They have already bonded with the volunteers feeding them and are now following them around the home like typical chows. We have nice videos of the dogs we will post on facebook, including Mitzzi giving kisses, and both dogs enjoying pets and taking treats gently. We thankfully found their medical records, and both dogs are fixed, chipped, vaccinated and were well taken care of. Mitzzi takes apoquel for allergies, and Buddi takes some pills for arthritis in his hips, and these medicines can be sponsored for the first year. They have been indoor dogs who are both potty trained and use a doggy door to access outside.. Mitzzi is only 40 lbs, and leashes easily, and warmed up much faster than Buddi who was more scared initially. She is described as very sweet. Buddi is 70 lbs and is also quite sweet once he trusts. We are told he is more submissive to Mitzzi, although both dogs seem to get along well. Since he is still is a bit afraid of strangers, we feel he needs a more chow or Asian breed savvy foster or home. With little time to find placement before they are euthanized, we are desperately looking for anyone who can foster or adopt either dog. While ideally we would love if there was a foster or home who could take both dogs together, we know that may not be realistic, and why we are looking for separate homes or fosters since most people can only take in one more dog. If you have prior chow or foster experience, and may be able to help or adopt one or both of these dogs, please contact [email protected] asap or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to find placement so these poor dogs are not euthanized. Ideally, a local foster or fosters is best, but we will consider fosters who may be closer to a willing rescue in a position to take them in.
