About Dakota

I have a male Belgian malinois/ GSD/cattle dog mix. He was born between February 3rd and the 6th of 2024. Dakota is special, he's going to need a lot of work but he is really smart. He will be a fantastic dog, once the kinks are worked out. He is approximately 6 months old, and he is huge. He needs training, that's consistent and beneficial to Dakota. We have had him since he was between 12 and 14 weeks old. From the start, I knew something felt off. Never acted like a puppy that wagged its tail or run up to you and want to play or bite or chase other animals. He found a hiding spot, and thats where he stays. Got him for my 15 year old daughter, and she is so upset with herself that it has come to having to remove him for his benefit. Besides hiding, puppies do hide sometimes, but after 2 weeks I talked to the person I got him from. He said Dakotas mom was the same way. Just give it time. I have tried everything literally to get through to Dakota. He is so close to being basically a feral dog. Except for being near my daughter, he still tries to get away but he keeps her in his view, his anxiety goes way up when she goes to school. He is not housebroken, he will not let anyone pet him or touch him. My daughter gets to touch him and pet him every now and then. On a leash he runs in circles like you are leading a horse. He doesn't even acknowledge us when we say his name. His life is basically 4 walls in a room. It's not good for Dakota, its hurting him more than helping him. His is also destructive at the moment, because he's teething, he frustrated, and he is starting to drop.
