About Sophie

SOPHIE is a 6 year old, 9.6 pound Yorkie mix who came to us from a bad situation. Despite everything that she experienced she is a very loving dog! SOPHIE was originally found tied outside a business with a note. The finder took her home, but her landlord would not allow Sophie inside, so she chained her in the backyard, with a towel covered wire kennel for shelter, and there she sat for longer than we care to think of. A friend of the finder eventually convinced her to surrender her to us. Poor Sophie was in rough shape with a skin infection and hair loss from fleas, but she was so happy to be inside and clean, getting lots of love and attention! She quickly discovered toys and LOVES to play. SOPHIE is a friendly, playful little girl that loves squeaky toys and snuggles. She loves a lap to sit in, but isn't super kissy and in your face. She will always excitedly greet you with a 3 foot bounce and a wagging tail. Sophie gets along well with the small dogs in her foster home, but can be a bit possessive over toys and would do fine as an only dog. She spent the last year living outside so it has taken some adjusting to get her used to being in a home again. She has made great strides in the last couple days in her housebreaking and has been accident free for the last 3 days. She is very calm and helpful when you put her harness on and if someone is willing to work with her and take her on leash walks she might be okay without a fenced yard in the right home. At night Sophie sleeps in the big bed curled up with her foster family. She has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, spayed, had a dental, has been fecal tested, has had a 12 month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. Not surprisingly, given the way she spent the last year, she is heartworm positive. She has started her treatment which is covered by the rescue until she is heartworm negative. MORE about SOPHIE: We are unsure how she would do with cats or kids. She is obsessed with toys and wouldn't do well with a child trying to take one from her. If there are kids in the home they should be older. Her skin has cleared up and her hair is growing back nicely! She's going to have a beautiful full coat when it's all grown in.
