About Marty

This has been a very difficult decision but Marty needs a home without children. My son is autistic and has trouble with boundaries at times, even with dogs, and I am 3 months pregnant. When a child is rough/lays on him, etc he will growl and has snapped twice. Not necessarily his fault but since becoming disabled I am not quick enough to prevent every situation like I wish to be. We have been working on this issue with children with very little success. Marty is about 2.5 years old, we have had him since he was 8 weeks old. I have put a lot of training into him (basic obedience plus tasked trained for light mobility and ptsd. He had to end his service dog training after snapping at a small child who was taunting him at the park. He gave no warning and that just is not safe for a service dog. He is very intelligent and active (has worn down what I call a 'patrol path' in the backyard from running the perimeter). He could play fetch for hours, loves tugs, alerts when people are close to the house, but can also be a couch potato all afternoon. He had an off switch after he gets his energy out. Very food motivated and easily trained. He bonded well with both my husband and I but has never been away from us so I have no idea how long it would take him to adapt. Would do best in an active adult only home. Has lived with two female dogs, I would recommend a slow introduction on neutral ground as he is somewhat dominant. Im sure I am leaving a lot out so please ask anything. I do not want to take him to a shelter but I want him to be away from kids as soon as possible, as long as it is the loving home he deserves.
