About LUNA - NC Rescue Dog

LUNA, who is need of a forever home or a longterm foster, is a year old, 55 lbs, Rhodesian Ridgeback / Pitbull mix puppy who was rescued from an abusive couple who were about to have her killed at a North Carolina pound. LUNA was neglected for her whole young life until she was rescued by her current foster with whom, in spite of her trauma, LUNA is thriving as she learns to trust people again. While LUNA is still initially untrusting of people, when her loved one calmly introduces her to someone new, she quickly warms up to the newcomer. And once she does warm up, she will never leave your side and will become your best friend forever. However, LUNA does need to be extra-cautiously introduced to other dogs and is so sensitive around them, that it would probably be best if she were the only dog in the home, but the good news is LUNA gets along great with cats, small animals and yes, even lizards: she loves her foster's Bearded Dragon, and actually falls asleep cuddling with him! LUNA is a highly intelligent and talented dog who has AMAZING recall skills, and will return to you on command. LUNA responds promptly to all basic commands, and knows how to go wait on her marker for feeding and won't eat until she sits and you say 'go!' She may jump up when she is excited to see you but also knows the command for 'down.' LUNA walks great on leash, and even better off leash! LUNA would make an amazing companion to anyone who would give her a chance. Loyal and loving, LUNA is fiercely protective of her loved ones. Among her favorite things is being a couch potato which she loves just as much as she loves playing outdoors. LUNA loves to play fetch with sticks and balls, and loves to go for long walks. LUNA can run forever and so fast. LUNA loves the water and even the rain! And LUNA absolutely loves to go for rides in the car! LUNA loves to cuddle and to give and get kisses, and 'most of all,' says the foster who rescued her, 'LUNA loves to feel love and absolutely deserves that and much more!' However, due to the trauma of having so few people in her life who she can trust, LUNA has understandably been left with a case of separation anxiety; so LUNA will need a family where a loved one works close to home or perhaps with a retired couple, so she will never have to feel alone again.
