About Molly

Adoption Fee: $2000
Horse
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Have you ever met someone who looks like they are absolutely miserable and would rather be anywhere but where they are, then when you gather up your courage and go to talk to them, they end up being the nicest and easiest to talk to person you've ever met? That is the exact vibe Molly gives off. She looks like she hates the world any everyone in it - and then you go up to her and all of a sudden she's the sweetest, friendliest mare you've ever met. This is Molly and she has what we lovingly call 'backwards ears' (mostly because explaining what R.B.F. is to children who don't understand what it means is awkward on tours). She is a 9 year old standardbred mare who is about 15.2hh. She used to race, but luckily her racing career ended because she wasn't very good at it. Her family realized it was better to stop before she got an injury that forced her to stop and we are so happy they did. We scooped her up right away and she obviously enjoys being a riding horse MUCH more. She's a super easy keeper, living on just a ration balancer (Enrich) and a couple supplements (Outlast as a preventative for ulcers and SA powder for some mild seasonal allergies) and eats literally any hay that's placed in front of her. She's currently barefoot and is doing well, but may potentially have to go into some shoes if she's in a more intense training program. Out in the field, she gets along with both mares and geldings and while she's higher up in the typical pecking order, she doesn't get super attached to her friends and can be taken from the field to be on her own with just the occasional call to her friends. Under saddle she's solid walk/trot, but is still figuring out how her legs should go when she's cantering with someone on her back. She also probably doesn't have a future as a high jumper - she's pretty clumsy going over poles and small cross rails, but she never balks or stops infront of them, she just doesn't necessarily pick up her feet as high as she should over them. She absolutely LOVES going out for a trail though and is always be the happiest when she's out in the woods, regardless of if it's on an established trail with a buddy or blazing a new one all on her own, she'll happily stay out exploring for hours and is always up to go adventuring. And nothing bothers her out there. A deer leaping from the tall grass in front of her? Got one step to the side and she turned her head to look at it. Bird taking off literally right underneath her? Barely got an ear twitch in response. She's just happy to be out in nature and won't let anything bother her out there. This is just a quick summary of this amazing little horse, but if you are interested in learning more, you can check out her bio page on our website, waywardranch.org, and if it seems like she would be a good fit, you can fill out an adoption application from there too! Or if you have any questions, you can reach out and we'll get back to you asap! We don't have any set adoption fees, but do ask that a donation be made at the time of adoption, and for Molly we are asking for a donation of $2000.
