About Sailor

Siamese / Snowshoe
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

While it's a long story and due to some unfortunate circumstances, I am trying to help my ex-partner re-home her cat, Sailor. We have been having some trouble finding him a new home, partly because he has epilepsy. I'm writing to ask if you would be able to take him and help find him a new home. Here is some background on him: Name: Sailor Breed: Snoeshoe Siamese Weight: ~10lbs Body: Long and skinny Age: 4yr Environment: Always indoors Checkup Status: Up-to-date on vaccines Pictures: https://photos.app.goo.gl/YS62VzQSFNrXiwVz9 Medical Condition: He has epilepsy (Clonic-tonic/Grand Mal seizures), but they have been fully managed through 2 daily doses of 16.5mg Phenobarbital ($7 per month) and annual bloodwork for monitoring. He's given half a pill in a pill pocket and takes them without any problems (he knows the bottle's sound and will stand up on his back legs for the treat). He also has some abnormal head-tilting movements, but this doesn't appear to affect him and the vet wasn't concerned about this. He is also a bit clumsy for a cat, but this doesn't impair him at all. Personality: He is the most docile cat I have ever encountered (I grew up with four cats) and he has never intentionally bitten or scratched anyone (my experience has been most cats will at least swat at you without claws and/or meow at you if they are annoyed, but he does not). I have heard him hiss only a handful of times in 4 years, but only when he was truly startled. He has some anxiety, but is friendly with other animals and will generally acclimate within minutes. While he does like to cuddle, he sometimes has a hard time getting comfortable with too much stimulation (I have to stop petting him or put my hand on him to get him to lay still). He has a thick fur coat and sheds a lot, but this can be mitigated using the Furminator brush (I would provide that with him). He gets bursts of energy (he does zoomies where he runs around the apartment, parkouring off furniture, meowing and growling), but these are generally short-lived (10-15 min) and he will sleep for a good bit of the day (the medication makes him a little tired). While he enjoys playing with other cats, his favorite toys are generally mouse-related: mouse on a string (all-time favorite), toy mice with fur, and mice images projected from a flashlight (sometimes he likes the laser pointer too). That said, while I will miss him, I think he is one of the most adaptable and easy-to-get-along-with cats I have ever seen. Again, the biggest problem is his epilepsy, but we have been able to manage this through medication. If this is not a problem in his new home, then I feel he will make a great pet.
