Clyde came into the Vinton County Shelter after we received a call about dogs being dropped off in the middle of nowhere in crates. By the time we arrived on scene Clyde and the other dogs had been let out and we were unable to get them. Eventually they made their way to a vacation property and were living under a camper. It took us three weeks of going to this property and feeding Clyde to gain his trust enough to get him into the truck and here to the shelter. He was very hungry, always desperate for food and was absolutely terrified. We expected Clyde to take a lot of time to come around to trusting us here at the shelter. To our surprise, it only took a few days. After Clyde realized we were providing him with meals and a safe place to sleep he quickly became very happy to see us each day. Clyde has been through a lot and still takes a minute to warm up to strangers, but once he knows you are safe, he is great at showing how grateful he is. He loves ear and butt scratches; he often gets a quick case of zoomies to show his excitement after receiving them. We believe that Clyde had limited ability to move, maybe was on a chain, before being dumped because, when he runs, it looks like he's just learning to move in that way again. Clyde is a very calm dog who will be loyal to anyone who shows him love and safety. He has been great with every dog we have introduced him to, sometimes warms up immediately, sometimes takes a few minutes. Clyde is very submissive and has never acted aggressively towards us no matter how scared (he just ran and hid when we first tried to do his shots). Clyde was dumped with two other dogs. One, unfortunately did not make it through the hard conditions. The other has found her home and is happily and slowly adjusting to the comfortable life. Now we are hoping that we can find Clyde's shot at the life he deserves. If you would like to meet Clyde, the best way to reach us is by calling 740-596-9285. (You will likely have to leave a voicemail, but we will be happy to call back. Or you can email [email protected] Clyde's adoption is sponsored so there is no cost to adopt. This includes his vaccinations (except rabies), microchip, and we can help pay for his neuter once adopted. We believe that Clyde will be a great dog for anyone willing to give him the time to become comfortable. He is very gentile, calm, and grateful.
