About Jake

Jake has been at the Vinton County Dog shelter the longest, over two years. He is always overlooked but is a great dog. Jake lived his life before coming to the shelter outside on a chain with no love and attention, so he will need some training if he's to be inside. Since being here at the shelter Jake has learned what love is, he is a very loyal boy who now loves butt rubs more than anything. Jake would be most comfortable with the ability to spend time outside but also now loves being inside and getting attention. He does tend to mark but quickly learned not to in our office here at the shelter (We believe getting him neutered will help this. We are offering to pay the cost of Jake's neuter once adopted). Jake keeps his kennel clean when allowed out twice a day, he just does not always get that opportunity. He is a smart dog and learns very quickly. Jake has recently gone out to fairs and public events with us an did fantastic socializing with people of all ages, he seems to enjoy children. Jake had a quick shot at a home recently, it did not work out. The man who adopted Jake had lots of land and assured us it was not Jake's fault that he had to come back. He said that Jake did great sticking around the area he was allowed in, loved spending time on the porch and listened really well on long walks. Jake was brought back because the man's dog did not like him, and they did get into a couple of fights. He assured us the Jake never once instigated, it was his dog. Jake is good with most other dogs once he meets them, but if confronted aggressively he will fight back. The man told us that Jake did fantastic with his other dog and his son's two dogs. He said that Jake seemed to enjoy their company and even enjoyed the dog who he had conflict with util that dog decided he did not like him. We are worried that we will be pressured into getting Jake euthanized if he does not find a forever home soon. He would be a great farm and family dog. He just needs some love. Jake's adoption if free, including his vaccinations (all but rabies) and microchip. We are able to pay for him to be neutered once he is adopted (just do not have a clean enough facility or the time to watch him properly during healing here). We have even had a dog trainer reach out and offer to do a free consult with whoever gives Jake a home. If you would like to meet Jake the best way to set up an appointment is to call, 740-596-9285.
