About Virginia

Our Australian Shepherd, named �'ۢVirginia', was my Mothers dog until she passed away in December, 2023. (I will upload a photo within 24 hrs). Virginia, once she's settled and gotten used to you, (which usually takes about 30 minutes, and warms more quickly to Women, tolerates Men), she is the absolute SWEETEST, most OBEDIENT, and LOVING dog I have ever known. She always wants to be touching you in some way, whether she's leaning against your leg as you sit, or laying on your feet as you watch TV. Prior to my Mother, she belonged to an elderly couple, who raised her from Puppyhood. Since they were elderly, I can only assume they could not get out and about with her as much as was needed, because her aggression / fear is DEFINATELY a result of non-socialization. If someone had the time and patience to work with her in socialization, she would be the PERFECT companion. She has never 'bitten' anyone, but she has nipped a couple of people she didn't know, but has NEVER broken skin or drawn blood. She simply has a loud, incessant BARKING and snarling fit anytime someone comes to the house. She sounds as if she's gonna rip your leg off, but when approached by said stranger, she turns and runs away! She is over-weight and we are working to help her lose a few pounds. Mother indulged her with table scraps and treats! Virginia also knows her commands extremely well, such as sit, lay, come, shake, fetch..and most importantly..Hurry Go Potty!! LOL Virginia, honestly, really is the sweetest, loving and most gentle dog I've ever met, (she loves to give kisses and shake!)..but all of this only after you've earned her trust, (about 15-20 mins). She is most assuredly protective of the person(s) under her watch! We need to find a patient, loving and nurturing home for Virginia before October 1, 2024. My Brother, who currently is living in the house and caring for Virginia, will be moving to the Washington DC area, and neither he nor I are able to keep her.
