About Howie

A little about Howie: Howie is a 17 pound, sweet, snuggly, happy little pup that we adopted from the Humane Society a little over one year ago. He loves to swim, play, and romp and whirl about. He has massive blue eyes and is a very handsome boy. He regularly stops people in their tracks with how cute he is. He has so much love to give to the right person. Here's what's going on: Unfortunately Howie's behavior issues were not properly disclosed to us at adoption and after lots of time, many vet visits, and training we know we cannot continue to care for him. So here are the cons: Howie is a project dog. We have done lots of training and management of his surroundings which has helped massively but he continues to have aggression and potty issues. Howie loves strangers, but inside the home he picks a person and is extremely loyal to them, to the point that he will lunge and bite at other members of the family who try to approach 'his' person. In addition to this, he will also guard toys, food, soft surfaces, and anything he deems worthy of guarding. Most of these things can be mitigated using the trade up method. But, we have 2 other dogs in addition to children on the property and our current situation is not viable for the future for both him and ourselves. We are heartbroken at the the possibility of euthanizing if he is brought back to the humane society, because we know that there is someone out there that he would have a beautiful life with. Howie needs a confident (preferably single) dog owner with NO young children and should be around emotionally stable dogs. I do not believe he is dangerous but he is seriously emotionally unregulated and we cannot dedicate the time or any more money necessary to healing him once and for good. I know whoever can dedicate this time will be rewarded immensely and with a true best friend for life.
