At 35 pounds, she's a sturdy little dog with a big personality. Penny spent the early part of her life confined to a chain, surrounded by other dogs in a less-than-ideal situation. Despite this challenging start, Penny's resilience and warmth shine through as she transitions to her new life. Rescued just in time from euthanasia, Penny is now learning what it means to be part of a loving home. She's adjusting remarkably well, considering her past. While she's still figuring out the finer points of home life, Penny is a quick learner. She's almost house trained and walks beautifully on a leash, showing that she's eager to please and ready for her new adventures. Penny is particularly good with dog-savvy kids, ideally those around 8 years or older. She's gentle and affectionate with them, though she may be startled by sudden movements from younger children. Her previous experiences have made her a bit sensitive to unexpected changes, so a calm and patient environment is key for her. Her interactions with other dogs are cautious but promising. Penny's initial curiosity is tempered by a nervousness that makes her growl when she sees other dogs for extended periods. This reaction is more about her anxiety than aggression. She's not quite ready for introductions yet, but with time and patience, she may become more comfortable around her canine peers. Penny is a quiet companion who has shown a rare ability to adapt. For the first ten days in her foster home, she didn't bark at all-a testament to her gentle nature. She's since started barking occasionally, but it's still quite rare. She loves human company, relishing every opportunity to give kisses and snuggle into laps. When not seeking affection, she entertains herself with squeaky and chew toys, which she's recently discovered she enjoys, especially since she's also warmed up to treats.
